Abstract

This study aims to determine the communication strategies used by working parents in managing device usage rules for children. The study was conducted in Lubuklinggau City using a descriptive qualitative approach and a case study method. Data collection techniques were carried out through interviews, observations, and documentation of working parents who manage their children's device use. This study utilized Valkenburg's parental mediation theory. The results showed that parents implemented various communication strategies, such as communicating and discussing device use with children. In addition, parents also implemented aspects of communication strategies such as limiting and determining the time and viewing options for children when using devices. These strategies help reduce device use by children and can avoid the negative impacts of device addiction. This study is expected to contribute to the development of communication strategies within working families in managing more effective device usage rules for children.
