Abstract

This study aims to explore the forms and practices of Artificial Intelligence (AI) integration in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning at SMAN 1 Kota Malang, identify the supporting and inhibiting factors, and analyze the impact of this integration on learning dynamics. This research uses a qualitative approach with an instrumental case study type. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, non-participant observation, and documentation techniques. Data analysis was carried out inductively through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing using the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework. The results showed that: (1) AI integration in PAI learning at SMAN 1 Kota Malang is implemented through a hybrid model, where AI is positioned as a cognitive scaffold that assists students in exploring material while maintaining strict "tashih" (verification) procedures against authentic sources (Al-Qur'an and Hadith). (2) The main supporting factors include strong digital infrastructure, progressive curriculum policies, and parental support, while inhibiting factors include the digital literacy gap among teachers and limited access to paid AI platforms.
(3) The impact of AI integration reflects a positive transformation in the students' cognitive dimension in the form of increased efficiency and creativity, but on the other hand, it requires strengthening the teacher's role as a moral authority and spiritual role model (uswatun
hasanah) that cannot be replaced by algorithms. The synergy between technology and spiritual values is a unique characteristic in the implementation of the AI curriculum at the school.
