Abstract
Background: Cervical cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related death among women in Indonesia. Patients with cervical cancer often experience pain and anxiety, especially during treatments such as chemotherapy. Non-pharmacological nursing interventions based on spiritual approaches, such as Qur'anic murottal therapy, are considered effective in reducing pain and anxiety in patients.
Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effect of Qur’anic murottal therapy using Surah Ar-Rahman in reducing pain and anxiety among cervical cancer patients at Dr. Saiful Anwar General Hospital, Malang.
Method: This research used a descriptive case study design. The subject was one female patient with cervical cancer, selected based on inclusion criteria. The intervention consisted of listening to murottal Surah Ar-Rahman for 10–15 minutes over three consecutive days. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and measurement of pain and anxiety scales.
Results: After the murottal therapy intervention, the patient’s pain scale decreased from 6 to
3. There was also a significant reduction in anxiety symptoms, as observed through facial expressions, communication behavior, and improved sleep quality. The patient reported feeling calmer and more emotionally prepared for treatment.
Conclusion: Qur'anic murottal therapy using Surah Ar-Rahman proved to be effective as a non-pharmacological intervention in reducing pain and anxiety in a cervical cancer patient. It is recommended as a complementary nursing intervention, especially for Muslim patients undergoing long-term care.
