KONSTRUKSI PEMBERITAAN BENCANA ALAM DI MEDIA ONLINE (ANALISIS FRAMING BERITA ERUPSI MERAPI PADA PORTAL BERITA SUARA MERDEKA DAN KEDAULATAN RAKYAT)

This study examines the construction of natural disaster news in online media through a framing analysis of Mount Merapi eruption coverage published by Suaramerdeka.com and Krjogja.com. The research is based on the assumption that news is not merely a reflection of reality, but a social construction shaped by media institutions through the selection, organization, and presentation of information. As two local media outlets with close geographical proximity to Mount Merapi, both platforms play a significant role in delivering disaster-related information to the public.

This research employs a qualitative descriptive method within a constructivist paradigm. The analysis applies the framing model developed by Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki, focusing on four structural dimensions of news texts: syntactic, script, thematic, and rhetorical structures. Data were collected through documentation of news articles concerning Mount Merapi’s activities published by both media outlets during 2025.

The findings reveal that each media outlet constructs the reality of the disaster differently. Suaramerdeka.com tends to frame the issue through factual reporting, official information, and disaster mitigation efforts, while Krjogja.com emphasizes the social impact of the eruption and the experiences of affected communities. These differences are reflected in the selection of sources, organization of information, thematic emphasis, and language used in the news coverage.
