Abstract

Elderly life is a stage characterized by a decline in the body's ability to adapt to the environment. As a person ages, physical abilities decline, such as decreased muscle strength, balance disorders, decreased vision, and hearing loss. Osteoarthritis is the most common health problem in the elderly. Knee pain during light and heavy physical activity is a common complaint among patients with knee osteoarthritis. Physiotherapy can provide treatment for knee osteoarthritis using physiotherapy modalities such as infrared (IR) and transcutaneous electrical stimulation (TENS), as well as aerobic exercise such as walking and cycling. This study aims to determine the relationship between physical activity and pain intensity in elderly patients diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis. The method used was purposive sampling. The independent variables in this study were elderly patients with grade 2-3 knee osteoarthritis, body mass index (BMI), physical activity, and pain intensity, while the dependent variable was pain intensity. The instruments used in this study were the PASE (Physical Activities Scale for Elderly) questionnaire and the NRS (Numeric Rating Scale). The data obtained were processed using SPSS with Pearson or Spearman correlation tests.
