Abstract
Physic nut (Jatropha curcas L.) is a tropical commodity that has potential as a substitute for fuel oil. Jatropha seeds has high oil content as a potential biodiesel feedstock. This study aims to obtain information on seed productivity and free fatty acid content of crude jatropha oil of various Jatropha genotypes. The research was conducted in Kedung Pengaron Pasuruan and Vegetable Oil Technology Laboratory University of Muhammadiyah Malang using single-factor randomized block design with four replications. The results showed that J.curcas genotype had a significant effect on the number of fruits per plant, number of seeds per plant, dry weight seeds per plant and seed oil content. BNJ test results showed that the number of fruits per plant and dry weight of seeds per plant produced by the JCUMM genotype (JCUMM-5, JCUMM-6, JCUMM-7, JCUMM-18) were higher than the control genotypes (IP3A and
IP3P). The number of seeds per plant ranged between 91.3 (IP3P) to 236.6 (JCUMM5). The dry weight 100 seeds of various genotypes ranged from 64.1 grams (JCUMM6) to 69.7 grams (JCUMM-5) while the mean seed oil content ranged from 39.5% (JCUMM-6) to 57, 7% (JCUMM-7). The esterification test results showed the results of Free Fatty Acid from crude jatropha oil ranged from 0.2% (JCUMM-18) to 1.97% (IP3A).
