Abstract
Background: Auditory hallucinations are one of the main symptoms experienced by patients with mental disorders and may interfere with psychosocial functioning and adaptive abilities. In addition to pharmacological treatment, non-pharmacological nursing interventions are needed to help patients control hallucinations independently. Qur’an recitation therapy is a spiritual intervention that may provide calmness, improve concentration, and reduce the intensity of hallucinations.
Method: This study used a case study method with a mental nursing care approach in a patient experiencing sensory perception disturbance: auditory hallucinations. The intervention consisted of Qur’an recitation therapy conducted for four consecutive days, with a duration of approximately 15 minutes per session. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and daily SOAP documentation to assess the frequency, duration, onset, and patient’s ability to control hallucinations.
Result: The results showed a gradual decrease in the frequency and duration of auditory hallucinations from the first to the fourth day of intervention. In addition, there was an improvement in the patient’s independence in performing Qur’an recitation therapy and an increased ability to recognize and control hallucinations independently.
Conclusion and Recommendations: Qur’an recitation therapy is effective as a non-pharmacological nursing intervention in reducing auditory hallucinations and improving patients’ self-control. This therapy is recommended to be implemented in a structured and continuous manner as part of mental nursing care and may be combined with other nursing interventions.
