Abstract
This research was motivated by the importance of using proper and correct Indonesian in textbooks as the main learning source for students. The purpose of this study was to describe the forms of language errors and the appropriate forms of correction in the Indonesian Language Textbook for Grade IX of Junior High School/Islamic Junior High School published by Inteligensia Media in 2022. This study employed a qualitative method with a descriptive qualitative approach. The primary data source was the Grade IX Indonesian language textbook published by Inteligensia Media in 2022, consisting of 134 pages. The data were collected through documentation techniques and analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing.
The results showed that the Indonesian language textbook for Grade IX of Junior High School/Islamic Junior High School published by Inteligensia Media in 2022 still contains various linguistic errors in the aspects of spelling and punctuation, word choice, and sentence structure. Errors in spelling and punctuation include the inappropriate use of hyphens, inaccurate use of quotation marks, excessive use of commas, the absence of separators in enumerations, the use of commas between the subject and predicate, inappropriate use of semicolons, capitalization errors, as well as word-writing errors such as affixation errors, nonstandard abbreviations, incorrect separation or combination of words, the use of numbers as substitutes for word elements, and typographical errors. In terms of word choice, the study found words whose meanings were not appropriate to the context, the use of nonstandard words in formal language, and inaccurate word forms. In terms of sentence structure, the study found ineffective sentences, the use of double conjunctions, the omission of important sentence elements, unclear subjects or predicates, and wordy sentence structures. The corrections were made by adjusting the writing based on the General Guidelines for Indonesian Spelling, selecting words that were more appropriate in meaning and context, and reconstructing sentences so that they became more effective, logical, clear, and easy to understand. Thus, the findings of this study indicate that the publisher needs to improve the quality of editing and linguistic quality assurance so that the published textbook is more suitable for use as teaching material for students.
