Abstract

In this rapidly evolving world, education also adapting to these changing
conditions. In this era of digital and highly advanced globalization, the elementary
education curriculum also needs to be updated to integrate information and
communication technology. Elementary education focuses not only on academics
but also on developing speaking skills, one of which is public speaking. Public
speaking skills are important to develop from an early age to foster self-confidence,
courage, and communication skills. One strategy teachers can use to improve public
speaking skills is through positive reinforcement. Therefore, this study aims to
analyze the application of positive reinforcement to the public speaking skills of
fourth-grade students at SDN Purwantoro 1 Malang.
This study used a qualitative approach with a descriptive research method.
The instruments used were interviews, observations, and documentation to obtain
relevant data. The data collection process was conducted directly within the school
environment to determine the application of positive reinforcement in learning
activities. The research subjects included five fourth-grade students and three
fourth-grade teachers at SDN Purwantoro 1 Malang.
The results of this study indicate that the application of positive verbal and
nonverbal reinforcement can increase students' courage, self-confidence, and
speaking skills in front of the class. Consistently providing positive reinforcement
encourages students to be more active, confident, and courageous in expressing
their opinions. Thus, positive reinforcement plays a crucial role in improving public
speaking skills.
