Abstract
The purpose of this research is to identify criminal activities carried out by motorcycle gangs in the city of Makassar and to understand the police strategies in preventing motorcycle gang crimes in Makassar. The research was conducted at the Panakkukang Police Sector Office in Makassar.
This qualitative research utilized both primary and secondary data sources. Data collection methods involved observation and guided interviews. Data analysis techniques included data reduction, data presentation, and verification.
The findings revealed four types of crimes committed by motorcycle gangs in the Makassar area: robbery with violence, assault, looting, and murder. Over the past three years (2020-2022), the recorded cases were as follows: 85 cases in 2020, 85 cases in 2021, and 182 cases in 2022. The Panakkukang Police Sector implemented several measures to minimize and prevent motorcycle gang crimes. Preventive efforts focused on optimizing the role of Babinkamtibmas (Bintara Pembina Keamanan dan Ketertiban Masyarakat) in local neighborhoods. Babinkamtibmas played a dual role in both preventive and repressive efforts. Repressive measures involved direct intervention when motorcycle gang crimes occurred.
