Abstract

Learning to read is one of the fundamental skills that is very important for students to master from the beginning of elementary school. In the early phase, beginning reading involves the ability to recognize letters, combine syllables, and form words and simple sentences to develop advanced reading skills. This study aims to develop learning media in the form of letter arrangement flashcards that can be used in beginning reading instruction for first-grade elementary school students. This development uses the ADDIE development model, which has five stages, namely: (1) Analysis, (2) Design, (3) Development, (4) Implementation, (5) Evaluation. This study uses qualitative and quantitative data analysis techniques. Qualitative data analysis is obtained from the results of observation, interviews, suggestions, and comments from validators. Quantitative data analysis is obtained from the validation of material experts and media experts, teacher response questionnaires, and first-grade student response questionnaires. The obtained data is used to test the validity, practicality, and attractiveness of Flash Card media in arranging letters in the initial reading learning of first-grade students at SD Negeri 4 Kepanjen. The research results showed that the Flash Card learning media for arranging letters that has been developed, according to material experts, received a percentage of 86%, while media experts gave a percentage of 82%, stating that it is feasible to be used in the field without revision. The students' questionnaire scores received a percentage of 98%. Based on the results of these two questionnaires, the qualification obtained is very good. The conclusion from these questionnaire results is that the development of Flash Card learning media for arranging letters in the early reading learning of first-grade elementary school students is declared valid, practical, and interesting to use in the learning process and can help achieve learning objectives.
