Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using egg counting boxes on the mathematics learning outcomes of first-grade students at MI Al-Hidayah Wajak. This study was conducted because first-grade students' mathematics learning outcomes in subtraction from 1-20 were still relatively low, and the learning process had not optimally utilized concrete media. The egg counting box was used as a learning aid to help students understand number concepts in a more concrete, engaging, and accessible way.
This study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design using a nonequivalent control group design. The subjects consisted of 48 first-grade students divided into two groups: an experimental group and a control group, each with 24 students. Data collection used a pretest and posttest. The data were then analyzed using prerequisite tests, namely normality and homogeneity tests, and then hypothesis testing using an Independent Samples t-test.
The results showed that the use of egg counting boxes significantly influenced students' mathematics learning outcomes. This is based on the average posttest score obtained, in the experimental class which is 77.92 while in the control class it is 66.42 where the experimental class has a higher average score compared to the control class and the results of the hypothesis test show a significance value of 0.030 (Sig. 2-tailed <0.05). Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the egg counting box learning media has an effect on improving the mathematics learning outcomes of grade 1 students at MI Al-Hidayah Wajak
