Abstract

This study examines the views of teachers at MI Hidayatul Muttagin in Blayu Village, Wajak District, Malang Regency, regarding the narrative in Timothy Ronald's YouTube content "Sekolah Itu Scam." The content critiques the formal education system in Indonesia, including the framing of school definitions, changes in school functions, standardization, the dominance of theories and values as benchmarks for learning outcomes, curriculum relevance, and teacher welfare. The subjects were selected because they have diverse experiences and backgrounds in implementing the madrasah education system, thus forming different interpretations of the message. In addition to implementing the national curriculum, they also instill character education based on Islamic values at the elementary level. This study uses Stuart Hall's Reception Analysis Theory (encoding-decoding) to analyze the audience's interpretation positions: Dominant-Hegemonic (accepting), Negotiated (negotiating), and Oppositional (rejecting). Using a qualitative approach through semi-structured interviews, it was found that teachers' receptions tended to be diverse. The majority accepted the criticism as consistent with their experiences, particularly regarding standardization and teacher welfare. However, resistance emerged when the narrative was perceived as undermining the school's function as a formal educational institution. Some teachers also negotiated solutions such as adaptive learning and technology integration, taking into account the limited facilities and characteristics of students at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah level.
