Abstract

Identification of Anxiety Management Efforts to Prevent GERD Recurrence
People often consider GERD a mild disease, without realizing that if left untreated, this condition
can be dangerous as it can irritate and inflame the lining of the esophagus. The impact of untreated
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) includes decreased sleep quality, increased stress, anxiety,
and feelings of fear, all of which can interfere with the patient’s mobility. Therefore, prompt management
of GERD is essential to prevent further complications such as poor sleep quality, stress, anxiety, and
prolonged pain. This study aims to identify anxiety management efforts in preventing the recurrence of
GERD in patients.* The research method used in this study was a qualitative method with a
phenomenological approach. The subjects of the study consisted of participant 1, Mr. T, aged 56 years,
as a patient experiencing GERD and anxiety; participant 2, Mrs. S, aged 46 years, as the wife; and
participant 3, Mrs. D, as the daughter. The study was conducted in Plaosan Village, RT 03/10,
Wonosari District, Malang Regency. The results of this study indicate that anxiety management in
GERD patients includes maintaining dietary restrictions to prevent GERD recurrence, receiving
support to adopt a healthy lifestyle, and applying adaptive coping strategies to manage anxiety.
