Abstract

This study aims to analyze the resilience of Myanmar's military junta authoritarian regime after the coup using Larry Diamond's concept of authoritarian resilience, which emphasizes five pillars of authoritarian regime resilience, namely repression, co-optation, legitimacy, information control, and regime adaptation. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with a literature study approach through analysis of scientific journals, international agency reports, and credible media publications. The results of the study show that the Myanmar military junta maintains power through the systematic use of repressive force against civilians, pro-democracy activists, and the media; co-opting political elites, bureaucrats, and economic actors through incentives and patronage networks, building pseudo-legitimacy based on religion and nationalism through collaboration with Sangha groups and religious institutions, and controlling the flow of public information through media and internet restrictions. In addition, the regime has demonstrated significant adaptability through adjustments to its political, economic, and diplomatic strategies, including strengthening relations with China and Russia and planning pseudo-democratic elections. This study concludes that the resilience of Myanmar's military regime is a form of fragile resilience because it is not supported by substantive political legitimacy and has the potential to collapse if domestic pressure through civil society consolidation and external international pressure continue to increase.
