Abstract
The implementation of the Independent Curriculum presents the Science subject as an integration of science and social studies, emphasizing contextual learning and strengthening critical thinking through a deep learning approach. For map material in the fifth grade of elementary school, learning tends to be dominated by lecture methods with limited media utilization. Observations in the fifth grade of SDN Sukun 2, Malang City, indicate that student participation in learning is still low, and understanding of map components, cardinal directions, and map symbols is uneven. Interviews with teachers also revealed that the media used is still simple and does not fully support active and meaningful learning. Based on these conditions, innovative learning media are needed that can provide a more interactive and contextual learning experience. This study aims to develop a deep learning-based Map Talk learning medium for maps in fifth-grade elementary school science lessons.
This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method to develop and test the feasibility of the Deep Learning-based Map Talk media. The development model used was the 4D model (Define, Design, Development, and Disseminate). Through these stages, the researcher began by analyzing student needs and characteristics, followed by designing the deep learning-based Map Talk media, validating and revising the media by experts, and conducting a limited trial to assess the media's use in fifth-grade elementary school science lessons.
The research results indicate that the deep learning-based Map Talk media developed is highly suitable for use in fifth-grade elementary school science lessons on maps. This is evidenced by the validation results from material experts, which obtained a feasibility percentage of 87.5% and validation results from media experts, which were categorized as very good. Teacher responses to the media's use also showed a very good percentage of 97,2%. Meanwhile, the results of the student response questionnaire in the limited trial obtained a percentage of 95,5% with a very good category, indicating that students felt more interested, active, and easier to understand map components, cardinal directions, and map symbols through media assisted by QR codes integrated with the Text-to-Speech application. This shows that the Map Talk media is very appropriate in terms of content and appearance, and received a very positive response from teachers and students.
