Abstract
Swimming is one of the sports that is widely competed, ranging from school-level competitions to national and international championships. This makes swimming a potential medium for developing students’ non-academic achievements. One educational institution that implements swimming extracurricular activities is Muhammadiyah 4 Elementary School, Batu. This study aims to describe the implementation of swimming extracurricular activities at Muhammadiyah 4 Elementary School, Batu in achieving students’ achievements, the supporting and inhibiting factors faced by students in developing non-academic achievements through swimming extracurricular activities, and the solutions to overcome the inhibiting factors in the implementation of swimming extracurricular activities at Muhammadiyah 4 Elementary School, Batu.
This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. The research subjects were swimming coaches and students. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis was conducted using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model, which consists of data collection, data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing.
The results of the research show that the implementation of swimming extracurricular activities at Muhammadiyah 4 Elementary School, Batu in developing non-academic achievement has been carried out effectively. Students are supported by well-programmed planning, support from teachers and the school, as well as effective collaboration with coaches and external parties. The inhibiting factors are related to psychological aspects and basic swimming skills, particularly among lower-grade students. The solutions to address these obstacles include intensive mentoring, the provision of adequate facilities, and operational support from teachers and the school.
