Abstract
Background : Aging is a natural phenomenon experienced by every individual, characterized by various changes in body function. One significant impact of the aging process is a decline in physiological functions, such as reduced muscle mass, physical strength, flexibility, and cardiorespiratory capacity, which ultimately reduces the level of physical fitness of the elderly.
Objective : This study aims to determine the relationship between physical activity levels and the fitness levels of the elderly at the Posyandu Ilp Nusa Indah, Batu City.
Methods : This study used an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population was elderly who regularly came to the Posyandu elderly with a sample of 35 respondents selected using a purposive sampling technique. The independent variable in this study was the level of physical activity, while the dependent variable was the level of fitness. Data collection was carried out using the GPAQ questionnaire to assess activity levels and 2MWT as a measure of fitness levels in the elderly. Data analysis was carried out univariately and bivariately, with a Pearson Correlation test.
Result : The results of the Pearson Correlation test showed a correlation coefficient value of r = 0.524 with a significance value of p = 0.001. This value indicates a statistically significant relationship between physical activity levels and the fitness levels of the elderly. A positive correlation indicates a unidirectional trend, but with a weak correlation. In conclusion, there is a significant relationship between physical activity levels and the fitness levels of the elderly at the Posyandu Indah Integrated Health Post in Batu City.
