Abstract
Background: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is one of the most common degenerative joint diseases in the elderly population and is a major cause of pain, limited mobility, and decreased physical function. The degenerative process that occurs in the articular cartilage, subchondral bone, and periarticular tissues causes pain, joint stiffness, and decreased range of motion (ROM), particularly in knee flexion.
Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between the frequency of physiotherapy interventions and increased active knee flexion ROM in patients with knee osteoarthritis at Hasta Husada Surgical Hospital.
Methods: The study used a quantitative observational-analytical method with a cross-sectional approach. A sample of 30 subjects was selected using a purposive sampling technique. The frequency of interventions was measured using patient medical records, while the increase in active knee flexion ROM was measured using a goniometer. Data analysis used the Shapiro-Wilk test for normality and the Spearman test for correlation.
Results: The average frequency of intervention was 3.03, and the average increase in active knee flexion range was 22.33. The normality test for the intervention frequency variable showed a significance value of 0.000, while the difference in active knee flexion range was 0.001. Both variables showed a p-value of <0.05, indicating that they were not normally distributed. Therefore, the Spearman test was used to analyze the relationship between the frequency of physiotherapy interventions and the increase in active knee flexion range. The Spearman test showed that both variables obtained a p-value of <0.05, indicating that there was no statistically significant relationship between the frequency of physiotherapy interventions and the increase in active knee flexion range in patients with knee osteoarthritis.
