Abstract
This study aims to analyze the development strategies of the Oro-Oro Ombo Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes) based on social capital in promoting the economic independence of the village community. The research focuses on identifying strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT analysis), as well as the influence of social capital on the success of BUMDes management and development. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a case study approach. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews with village officials, BUMDes managers, and the community, supported by field observations and documentation studies. The results of the study indicate that the main strengths of BUMDes Oro-Oro Ombo lie in its strong legal foundation through the Village Regulation (PerDes) that governs management, leadership, and transparent and accountable oversight mechanisms. Nevertheless, the weaknesses faced include limited capital and low managerial capacity.
As well as a lack of training and understanding in financial management and business development. The development opportunities for BUMDes are very large due to its strategic location in the tourist area of Batu City, which is close to major destinations such as Batu Night Spectacular, Coban Rais, and Batu Flower Garden. Meanwhile, the threats faced include uncontrolled land-use changes, social conflicts due to outside investment, pressure on infrastructure, as well as potential cultural and environmental degradation. The development strategy for BUMDes Oro-Oro Ombo is carried out through strengthening institutional capacity, diversifying business units, and increasing community participation. Social capital, which consists of elements of trust, social networks, and social norms, serves as the main foundation for strengthening collaboration and mutual cooperation among the community. The results of managing business units such as Café Husgendam, Parking Rest Area, and Fotokopi Panderman show that the tourism and culinary sectors contribute the most to BUMDes' income with a total net profit of Rp14,000,000 per month.
