Abstract

Background: The aging process in older adults leads to a decline in the musculoskeletal system, including changes in bones and muscles. These changes affect body posture and balance. One such change is a forward shift of the head position in the sagittal plane, moving away from the vertical line of the shoulder, which is indicated by the misalignment between the ear and the shoulder and is known as forward head posture. Changes in posture affect the body’s center of gravity, which can cause balance disturbances and increase the risk of falls in the elderly population
Research Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between forward head posture and the risk of falls among elderly patients at Muhammadiyah Selogiri Hospital.
Research Methods: The study design used cross-sectional with a total of 53 participants taken with a purposive sampling technique. The Craniovertebral Angel (CVA) used to measure the angle of the forward head posture, and Morse Fall Scale (MFS) questionnaire used to measure the risk of falls.
Result: Chi Squared use to determine the relationship of the forward head posture and fall risk in the participants. This study showed statistically significant relationship between forward head posture and fall risk with p-value (0.000).
Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between forward head posture and fall risk in the elderly in Muhammadiyah Selogiri Hospital
