Abstract

This study aims to analyz the ability to read comprehension using the skimming technique for fictional story material ingrade 5 students of Indonesian Language subjects at SDN Manggisan 01. The background of reading comprehension using the skimming technique.
The research mehotd used is descriptive qualitative with data collecton techniques in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation. Observation were conducted directly during the Indonesian language learning process in grade 5. Interviews were conducted with the principal, grade 5 teachers, and grade 5 students to obtain accurae data. Documentation in the form of photos of learning activities and evaluation through reading tests using the skimming technique was used to strengthen the results of observation and interviews.
The results of the study showed an increase in average scores from the beginning to the end of the lesson. With a continuously increasing completion score, this demonstrates the effectiveness of the skimming technique in improving the quality of reading learning in the classroom. In learning using the skimming technique, the delivery method is designed to encourage students to be enthusiastic and active in the learning process. This makes students more efficient in reading and simultanesously understanding the content of the reading.
