Abstract

This study aims to explore the use of ScrapSculpt media as a form of
implementing Culturally Responsive Teaching in developing the fine motor skills of children with special needs at SD Muhammadiyah 9 Malang. ScrapSculpt media is a learning medium based on the utilization of recycled plastic materials that are creatively transformed into learning products by integrating the school’s cultural
values. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive exploratory research design. The research subjects included children with special needs, classroom teachers, and special education teachers. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was strengthened through source and time triangulation. The results indicate that ScrapSculpt media encourages the active involvement of children with special needs through manipulative activities, which
positively impacts the development of fine motor skills. The implementation of Culturally Responsive Teaching through this media connects learning with the school’s Adiwiyata culture and the surrounding environment, making learning more meaningful, contextual, and inclusive, as well as assisting teachers in adapting
instruction to the characteristics and needs of children with special needs. Therefore, ScrapSculpt media can serve as an innovative learning alternative based on Culturally Responsive Teaching to support the development of fine motor skills in children with special needs.
