Abstract

Social construction is a process by which individuals interact and shape realities. Social construction is not a natural phenomenon, but rather is formed through social interaction and mutual agreement within a social group. Social construction emerges as a result of a long social process, in which humans are shaped by consciousness, history, and culture, thus forming meaning. This research was conducted to determine the social construction of coastal communities regarding sociocultural realities in the North Coast area, specifically in Jompong Village, Brondong District, Lamongan Regency. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive qualitative approach and purposive sampling as a subject collection technique. The research was conducted in Jompong Village, Brondong District, Lamongan Regency, using observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. The data analysis technique used was ethnography, and data validity was assessed using Peter L. Berger's social construction theory. The research findings indicate that the social construction of society is formed through the processes of externalization, objectivation, and internalization. Cultural values such as the tradition of sea almsgiving, mutual cooperation, and the division of social roles have become part of the social reality that is maintained and passed down from generation to generation. Amidst social and technological changes, coastal communities are able to negotiate these values without losing their cultural identity.
