Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and 50 meter freestyle swimming speed in swimmers aged 8-16 year at Artseidon Swwimming in Malang City. Using a quantitative correlational cross-sectional design, a sample of 15 respondents wa selected using purposive sampling with anthropometric measurements (BMI, fat mass, muscle mass) via Omron HBF-214 and swimming test measured with a stopwatch, analyzed using SPSS 25 with the Shapiro-wilk test and pearson correlation. Result showed no significant relationship between BMI (r=-0.253, p=0.002), with most respondents having normal bmi (60%) and being male (60%). The conclusion states that biomechanics and swimming technique are more dominant than anthropometry in adolescents with ideal body composition
