Abstract

The city of Ternate is located at the foot of the still-active volcano Mount Gamalama, which stands at 1,715 meters above sea level. Mount Gamalama has erupted many times, most recently in 2011. These eruptions produced volcanic ash, sand, and rocks. The flash flood flowed into almost all rivers on the slopes of Mount Gamalama, one of which was the Rua River in Rua Village. In 2024, Rua Village experienced a flash flood that claimed many lives and caused severe damage to buildings. To prevent this potential danger, efforts were made to build a sediment control structure, namely a Sabo Dam. The data required included hydrological data in the form of daily rainfall data, a map of the Rua watershed, geotechnical data, and a river geometry map. This data was then analyzed and processed as the basis for planning the Sabo Dam. The total cost is IDR 3,943,230,636.32. The Sabo Dam plan is expected to be an optimal support in disaster prevention, and it is hoped that the percentage of areas affected by disasters, especially in Rua Village, will be reduced.
