Abstract

Background: Nurse performance is a critical component of healthcare service quality. Issues related to financial welfare, such as delays in allowances, changes in medical service remuneration systems, and uncertainty in incentive disbursement, may affect nurses’ motivation and work performance. Salary is considered an important factor that may influence nurse performance. Objective: To analyze the relationship between salary and nurse performance in the inpatient wards of Kotawaringin Timur Regional Hospital. Methods: This study employed a descriptive correlational design using a cross-sectional approach. A total of 93 nurses were selected through purposive sampling. Salary was measured using a questionnaire consisting of basic salary, allowances, and incentives, while performance was assessed using the Chester I. Barnard (2008) instrument. Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank correlation test with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: Most respondents had a moderate salary level (58.1%) and poor performance (58.1%). The Spearman test showed a significant and very strong relationship between salary and nurse performance, with p = 0.000 and a correlation coefficient of r = 0.918, indicating a strong positive correlation. Conclusion: Salary has a very strong and significant relationship with nurse performance. Higher salary levels are associated with better performance among inpatient nurses.
