Abstract
Nyamplung (Calophyllum inophyllum L.) is a woody plant that grows in coastal areas, has relatively large seeds, and has a high oil content as a raw material for biodiesel. Nyamplung oil has emollient properties and good cleaning ability, making it suitable for application as a raw material for making liquid soap. Liquid soap is a cleaning product whose quality is influenced by the concentration of Potassium Hydroxide (KOH) and heating time. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of KOH concentration and heating time on the characteristics of soap from nyamplung oil according to Indonesian National Standard (SNI) 4085:1996 and SNI 4085:2017. The research method used was a Completely Randomized Design with treatment of KOH concentration and heating time. Data on the characteristics of liquid bath soap were analyzed using ANOVA, organoleptic data and antibacterial tests were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that increasing KOH and heating time increased total fatty acids and active ingredients, decreased free fatty acids, and reduced microbial contamination, with the interaction of both factors being significant for all parameters. The liquid bath soap produced complies with the quality requirements of liquid bath soap SNI 4085:1996 and SNI 4085:2017.
