Abstract

The use of smartphones for playing online games is increasing among adolescents and has the potential to cause musculoskeletal complaints, one of which is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). This study aims to determine the relationship between the duration and frequency of playing online games on smartphones and CTS complaints in SMA LAB UM Malang students. This study used a quantitative method with an observational analytical design and a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 93 students selected by purposive sampling. Data on the duration and frequency of playing games were collected through questionnaires, while CTS complaints were measured using the Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BCTQ). Data analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between the duration of playing games and CTS complaints (p = 0.461) or between the frequency of playing games and CTS complaints (p > 0.05). This study concluded that the duration and frequency of playing online games on smartphones were not significantly related to CTS complaints in SMA students.
