Abstract
Background: Patient adherence to the home exercise program (HEP) is a key factor in the success of physiotherapy rehabilitation, yet adherence remains low. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between recovery motivation and adherence to home exercise among patients in independent physiotherapy practices in Malang City.
Method: This analytical observational study with a cross-sectional approach involved 81 respondents selected through simple random sampling. The instruments used were the Treatment Motivation Questionnaire (TMQ) and Exercise Adherence Rating Scale (EARS). Data analysis utilized the Spearman Rho test.
Result: The average recovery motivation score of respondents was 35.123 (79.8%) and adherence to home exercise reached 19.209 (80.0%). Correlation test results showed a significant positive relationship (r=0.271; p=0.014) with weak correlation strength.
Conclusion: There is a significant positive relationship between recovery motivation and adherence to home exercise programs, but its contribution is relatively small (27.1%), indicating that other factors such as family support, patient knowledge, and therapeutic communication should be considered in improving HEP adherence.
