Abstract

This study aims to describe the semiotic reasoning abilities based on the Adversity Quotient (AQ) of prospective elementary school teachers at MMuhammadiyah University Malang. Semiotic reasoning is a thinking ability that involves understanding, using, and interpreting signs, symbols, and representations in solving mathematical problems, while Adversity Quotient is related to an
individual’s resilience in facing difficulties. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with research subjects consisting of students of the Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program at Muhammadiya University Malang class of
2025 class B.
Data Collection techniques include an Adversity Quotient questionnaire, problem-based tests on spatial material, observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out through the stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, and data validity was
tested using triangulation techniques. the resulst of the study indicate that students with AQ climbers type have more consistent and systematic semiotic reasoning abilities in meeting the indicators of analyzing, integrating, generalizing, and
justifying. campers are able to use all indicators of semiotic reasoning, but are not yet consistent in maintaining the reasoning process, while quitters tend to have difficulty in maintaining the continuity of the reasoning process. The Adversity Quotient plays a role in supporting the quality of semiotic reasoning of prospective
elementary school teacher.
