Abstract
Background: The increase in gadget use among preschoolers is a phenomenon that requires serious attention, especially when such use is excessive and uncontrolled. Gadget addiction is a condition in which individuals use gadgets excessively to the point that it is difficult to control their use in daily activities. This condition can have an impact on children's behavioral, social, emotional, and cognitive development. This situation poses a challenge for parents in terms of supervision, especially for parents who have limited time due to work or other commitments. Objective: This study aims to determine how parents experience overcoming gadget addiction in preschool children. Method: This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data collection was conducted through semi-structured interviews with two participants who were directly involved in dealing with children with gadget addiction. Data validity was strengthened using triangulation. Results: From the data analysis, four main themes were found, namely: (1) high intensity of gadget use in children, (2) behavioral changes such as decreased interaction, disturbed sleep, emotional outbursts, and difficulty concentrating, (3) parents implementing various efforts to overcome addiction, such as diverting children's attention to positive activities, providing guidance, making rules related to gadget use, and seeking parenting references, (4) challenges that arise, such as the influence of the surrounding environment and the lack of firmness from family members in enforcing rules. Conclusion: Parents play a crucial role in addressing gadget addiction in preschool-aged children; consistency, responsiveness, and awareness are key to achieving maximum success.
