Abstract

Background : Hypertension is a chronic disease characterized by elevated blood pressure caused by unhealthy lifestyle patterns, excessive salt intake, and genetic factors, requiring long-term management including dietary regulation. The success of healthy eating patterns in hypertension patients is strongly influenced by family involvement and support. Objective : To explore the family’s role in dietary control among hypertension patients. Method : This study used a qualitative method with a case study design, collecting data through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, and strengthened by triangulation on one main participant, the patient’s spouse. Results : The study identified two major themes: (1) Family Roles, (2) Dietary Patterns Before and After Diagnosis. Family support in the form of instrumental, emotional, informational assistance, and health-related accompaniment played an important role in helping patients adhere to a low-salt diet, maintain regular meal schedules, and choose healthier foods. Conclusion : Family involvement significantly influences the success of dietary management in hypertension patients. Consistent support improves dietary adherence, stabilizes blood pressure, and enhances overall quality of life. Family knowledge, socioeconomic conditions, and participation in health programs further support effective hypertension control.
