Abstract

Background : Writing is an activity for students to express ideas through linguistic symbols.
Prolonged writing in an incorrect position can increase pressure on the cervical spine, leading
to a higher degree of Forward Head Posture (FHP). According to the National Academy of
Sports Medicine, Forward Head Posture is a head position that is more anterior to the cervical
spine and has a prevalence of 60% to 80%. Poor posture during childhood will negatively
impact their lives as adults.
Objective : This study aims to determine the relationship between the duration of writing and
the degree of Forward Head Posture (FHP) in 5th grade students of Muhammadiyah 1
Elementary School, Malang.
Methods : This study used an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach.
The population was fifth-grade students of Muhammadiyah 1 Elementary School, Malang. The
sampling technique used in this study was total sampling, with a sample size of 72 respondents.
The research instrument used was the Craniovertebral Angle (CVA). Data analysis in this study
used the Chi square test.
Results : The results of data analysis using the Chi square test obtained a significance value of
0.159 (p>0.05), so it was stated that there was no relationship between writing duration and the
degree of Forward Head Posture (FHP) in 5th grade students of Muhammadiyah 1 Elementary
School, Malang.
Conclusion : There is no relationship between writing duration and the degree of Forward
Head Posture (FHP) in 5th grade students at Muhammadiyah 1 Elementary School, Malang.
