Abstract

Background: Final-year students who are completing their thesis are vulnerable to stress due to
academic demands, limited time, and psychological pressure. Poorly managed stress can affect various
aspects of health, one of which is a decline in sleep quality. Poor sleep quality has the potential to
impair cognitive function, physical health, and academic performance. This study aimed to determine
the relationship between stress levels and sleep quality among final-year students facing thesis completion
at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang.
Research Method: This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational analytic
design and a cross-sectional method. The sample consisted of 43 final-year students from the Faculty
of Health Sciences, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang, selected using purposive sampling. The
instruments used were the Student Stress Inventory (SSI) to measure stress levels and the Pittsburgh
Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) to assess sleep quality. Data analysis was conducted using the Spearman
Rank correlation test.
Results: The results showed that the majority of respondents experienced high levels of stress and
poor sleep quality. Statistical analysis indicated a significant relationship between stress levels and sleep
quality among final-year students.
Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between stress levels and sleep quality among final-
year students who are completing their thesis. Higher stress levels are associated with poorer sleep
quality.
