Abstract
The Basic Literacy Movement has become a routine habit at SDN Dadaprejo 01. However, there are several 3rd grade students who have difficulty understanding reading so it is necessary to analyze the Basic Literacy Movement program on students' reading comprehension skills. This study aims to analyze: (1) the basic literacy movement program on the reading comprehension skills of 3rd grade students at SDN Dadaprejo 01, (2) the obstacles of the basic literacy movement program on the reading comprehension skills of 3rd grade students at SDN Dadaprejo 01, and (3) Solutions to the obstacles of the basic literacy movement program on the reading comprehension skills of 3rd grade students at SDN Dadaprejo 01.
This study employed qualitative and descriptive methods. The data sources consisted of 23 third-grade students at SDN Dadaprejo 01, Batu. The study was conducted in December and January. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, documentation, test instruments, and field notes.
The results of the study show (1) the basic literacy movement program has three stages, namely preparation, implementation, and evaluation. Preparation is in the form of preparing reading materials, questions, and explanations of activities. The implementation of the program obtained analytical results that this program contributes positively to students' reading comprehension skills, although the level of student achievement is still varied. (2) obstacles in the basic literacy movement program towards reading comprehension skills are internal and external obstacles, in the form of reading interest and motivation owned by students and lack of involvement of the school and infrastructure, (3) Solutions to existing obstacles in the field are additional explanations or discussions between teachers and students regarding reading questions, flexibility in program management for teachers, and the existence of reading corners in the classroom.
The Basic Literacy Movement program at SDN Dadaprejo 01 was implemented routinely and contributed positively to the reading comprehension skills of third-grade students, although there was still variation in ability among students. Implementation obstacles were overcome through the active role of teachers and the utilization of reading corners and the school library. This research is recommended to be used as a reference for teachers, especially third-grade teachers, to be able to continue developing varied methods. Schools need to monitor the basic literacy movement program.
