Abstract
Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) is an approach to learning mathematics that is associated with the real world or realistic. RME is often applied in learning for children with special needs (ABK). Tunagrahita children are children with special needs who have an IQ below the average. Therefore, tunagrahita children have limitations in terms of academic and non-academic. The method in this research is descriptive qualitative. Data collection in this study used observation and tests. Observation is used to observe the implementation of learning effectiveness indicators by applying the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach. Observations were made by subject teachers and researchers. The test consists of pre-test and post-test. Tests were given to research subjects, namely students with SMPLB level. The data obtained is then analyzed with the first step, namely analyzing the results of tests and observations. After that the data will be presented in the form of a quantitative table which will then be explained descriptively. Quantitative tables in this study are used as supporting data for research. The last step is the formulation of conclusions. The results of this study indicate that the application of the RME approach to the social arithmetic ability of children with SMPLB level is proven to be effective. This is evidenced by the results of observations of learning effectiveness indicators which reached a score of 92,35% (effective) and the results of student tests which are in the 80-100 range
