Abstract

This study was motivated by the importance of reading interest among primary school students and the need for structured literacy training. This study aims to describe the implementation of the GERLISA (Junsa Literacy Movement) programme in fostering reading interest among fourth-grade students and to describe the reading interest of fourth-grade students after participating in the GERLISA programme at SDN Junrejo 01 Batu.
This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects consisted of the GERLISA (Junsa Literacy Movement) coordinator, teachers, and fourth-grade students at SDN Junrejo 01 Batu. Data validity was obtained through triangulation of techniques and sources. Data analysis was carried out through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. This research was conducted in the odd semester of the 2025/2026 academic year at SDN Junrejo 01 Batu.
The results of the study indicate that the implementation of the GERLISA (Junsa Literacy Movement) programme in Grade IV of SDN Junrejo 01 Batu has been running well, in a structured and consistent manner, supported by clear reading stages, the active role of teachers, a diverse collection of reading materials, and easily accessible literacy facilities. Regular weekly literacy activities have succeeded in creating a conducive, enjoyable learning environment that supports student engagement. As a result, the reading interest of fourth-grade students has shown positive development, reflected in their enjoyment of reading, their needs, interests, attention, and active participation or involvement in all literacy activities. Thus, GERLISA (Junsa Literacy Movement) has been able to support the growth of students' reading interest at SDN Junrejo 01 Batu.
