Abstract

Children in orphanages have diverse backgrounds. Foster children do not only come from the status of orphans, orphans, orphans, and poor. There are also children with certain backgrounds that lead them to live in an orphanage, especially children with unknown backgrounds. This study aims to determine and describe the interpersonal communication between the orphanage manager and foster children regarding the delivery of the identity of foster children whose origins are unknown. The method used in this study uses a case study research basis with a descriptive qualitative approach. The theory used in this study uses the interpersonal communication theory by Joseph A. DeVito humanistic approach related to five aspects which include: openness, empathy, support, positive attitude, and equality. The results of research conducted at the Al-Qarni Orphanage Foundation show that the openness of the orphanage manager in conveying the identity of foster children is done gradually. Empathy is shown by understanding the feelings of children. In addition, things that support foster children receiving messages about their identity are based on a strong understanding of religion by the orphanage manager to foster children in their daily lives. A positive attitude involves advising foster children to continually strive for good. Equality, demonstrated by the orphanage management, is demonstrated by not discriminating against the foster children's backgrounds. In practice, interpersonal communication is fostered by the orphanage management, who maintains an emotional closeness with the foster children.
