Abstract
Ischemic stroke is a condition caused by impaired blood flow to the brain, leading to neuronal death and neurological deficits. One key factor in preventing recurrence and complications is patients’ adherence to antihypertensive medication. This study aimed to analyze medication adherence among ischemic stroke patients using the Hill-Bone High Blood Pressure Therapy Compliance Scale and to describe antihypertensive drug usage patterns in the Neurology Clinic of Muhammadiyah University Hospital Malang. This research used an observational descriptive cross-sectional design. Data were collected through the Hill-Bone questionnaire distributed to eligible ischemic stroke patients. Univariate analysis was conducted to describe respondents’ characteristics, adherence distribution, and antihypertensive therapy profiles. The majority of respondents were over 64 years old, predominantly female, and most had a history of hypertension. The Hill-Bone questionnaire results indicated that most patients demonstrated high adherence to antihypertensive therapy, particularly regarding medication-taking and clinic visits. The most frequently used antihypertensive drug classes were Calcium Channel Blockers (CCB) with monotherapy. In conclusion, ischemic stroke patients in this study showed good adherence to antihypertensive therapy. The antihypertensive treatment patterns observed were generally consistent with AHA/ASA therapy guidelines.
