Abstract

Background: Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 and hypertension are chronic conditions that frequently occur together and require long-term management. These diseases not only affect the patient’s physical health but also influence psychological and social well-being. Objective: This study aims to explore the experiences of a patient living with comorbid Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 and hypertension and to understand the adaptation processes involved in managing these chronic conditions. Methods: The study used a qualitative research design with a case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews guided by semi-structured interview questions. Data analysis was carried out through theme identification using processes of reduction, categorization, and interpretation. Results: The study identified five main themes: illness journey, emotional responses, coping strategies and lifestyle adjustments, family support, and motivation for recovery. The patient faced physical and emotional strain, used simple coping methods to reduce stress, and relied heavily on family support. Dietary adaptation and medication adherence were essential in managing the condition. Conclusion: This study highlights the importance of a holistic nursing approach that addresses physical, emotional, and social aspects to improve the quality of life of patients with chronic illnesses.
