Komunikasi Antarbudaya Mahasiswa Etnis Minangkabau yang Mengalami Culture Shock di Kota Malang (Studi pada Mahasiswa Etnis Minangkabau yang Tergabung di Ikatan Pemuda Pelajar Mahasiswa (IPPM) di Kota Malang)

Minangkabau ethnic students studying in Malang City face cultural differences that have the potential to cause culture shock, especially in terms of language and communication style. This study aims to determine how Minangkabau ethnic students communicate interculturally in facing culture shock in Malang City.
This research was conducted in Malang City. The approach used in this study was descriptive qualitative, using in-depth interviews with five informants to collect data. The number of informants in this study was five.
The results showed that Minangkabau ethnic students experienced anxiety and uncertainty in communication during the initial stages of interaction due to differences in language and culture. To overcome this, students tend to use passive communication strategies, such as remaining silent, observing, and using Indonesian. Over time and with the support of their social environment, students are able to manage their anxiety and uncertainty so that communication becomes more effective.
