Peran Instagram dan Twitter dalam Menyuarakan Tragedi Semanggi & Pelanggaran Hak Asasi Manusia (Studi Kasus Aktivisme Kamisan)

New media is a digital technology-based medium that enables interactive, real-time, and participatory information distribution via the internet, such as social media, websites, and other digital communication platforms. The role of new media, particularly Instagram and Twitter, in raising human rights violations through the Kamisan Activism movement. Kamisan Action is a peaceful protest held every Thursday in front of the State Palace by families and survivors of human rights violations, including the Semanggi Tragedy. The purpose of this study is to determine how new media plays a role in expanding the movement's reach and influence in the digital realm. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method, involving observation, interviews with Kamisan activists, and social media documentation. The theoretical concept used in this study is Agenda Setting Theory.
The results show that Kamisan Action effectively utilizes Instagram and Twitter as a digital communication strategy to expand advocacy for human rights issues, particularly to the younger generation. Through consistent posting, use of hashtags, visual framing, and historical narratives, Kamisan Action successfully shapes the public agenda in line with agenda setting theory. Social media serves not only as a means of disseminating information, but also as a space for education and participatory discourse. Despite challenges such as disinformation and algorithmic limitations, digital media continues to prove a crucial tool in strengthening human rights advocacy and preserving society's collective memory.
