Abstract
Intercultural communication strategy is a communication process that occurs between individuals or groups who have different backgrounds, such as differences in race, ethnicity, social strata, language style, habits and others. Effective intercultural communication resolution strategies are very important in resolving conflicts that occur between local communities and out-of-town students in Tlogomas Village. The purpose of this study is to identify intercultural communication strategies used by local communities in the process of conflict resolution with out-of-town students in Tlogomas Village, Lowokwaru District. The paradigm used in this study is constructivism by viewing social reality as a phenomenon that is formed through the process of social interaction.
The research used a qualitative approach with a case study. The type of research used in this study is descriptive research with qualitative methods including interviews, field observations, and documentation studies. The results of the study indicate that the conflict between students from out-of-town students and the Tlogomas community was triggered by cultural and lifestyle differences. Through collaborative conflict resolution involving the village, community leaders, security forces, and the campus, there was an increase in cultural awareness, open communication, and empathy between the parties. Student involvement in village activities effectively reduced friction, although its effectiveness was temporary, requiring ongoing cultural development.
