Abstract

Background: Stroke is one of the leading causes of disability that requires long-term care for patients, making the role of family caregivers very important in meeting the needs of post-stroke patients at home. However, many family caregivers experience
limitations in care, such as lack of knowledge, skills, and support. Therefore, it is important to thoroughly understand the needs of family caregivers so that care for post-stroke patients can be provided safely and effectively. Objective: To identify the needs of family caregivers in caring for post-stroke patients. Methods: A qualitative method was used with a case study approach involving three family members of patients as participants. Data were obtained through semi-structured interviews, then analyzed using domain analysis techniques and tested for validity using triangulation of sources. Results: Five themes were identified: 1) Need for health information, 2) Need for professional support, 3) Need for social support, 4) Emotional needs, 5) Instrumental needs. Conclusion: Overall, meeting these needs is very important to improve the quality of care and well-being for both family caregivers and patients.
