Abstract

Background: Caring for patients with disabilities resulting from spinal fractures and tumors presents physical, emotional, and financial challenges for families. Family support greatly influences the recovery process, yet it often comes with significant burdens. This study aims to explore the experiences of families caring for disabled patients through a case study of An. Ys's family in Lemah Duwur Village, Malang Regency. The research employs a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with three participants: one patient and two family members directly involved in the care process. Data analysis was conducted thematically, with source triangulation to enhance validity. The study identifies four main themes: (1) Family support in fulfilling Activities of Daily Living (ADL); (2) Family accompaniment in therapy and treatment; (3) Caregiver burden experienced by the family; and (4) Barriers to accessing healthcare services. The results highlight that family roles are crucial in supporting the patient’s recovery despite the heavy challenges they face. Conclusion:
Family support is a key element in caring for patients with disabilities caused by spinal fractures and tumors. Health professionals need to provide education and adequate resources to alleviate the family burden. This study offers a foundation for designing more holistic family-based care programs.
