Abstract

Physical activity is an important aspect of diabetes mellitus management in older adults as it helps maintain stable blood glucose levels, improves bodily function, and prevents complications. Low levels of physical activity may decrease functional ability and quality of life in the elderly; therefore, understanding physical activity patterns is essential. To describe the physical activity performed by older adults with diabetes mellitus. This study used a qualitative method with a case study design involving two participants: Mrs. S (P1) as the patient and Ms. F (P2) as supporting data. Data validation was conducted using source triangulation through semi-structured interviews, observation, and documentation. Results Three themes were identified: 1) Physical Activity and Functional Independence, 2) Travel or Physical Mobility, and 3) Leisure Activities. The older adults in this study remained active in light household chores, gardening, walking, cycling, and engaging in preferred activities such as gymnastics and morning walks. Older adults with diabetes mellitus in this study demonstrated good physical activity levels and were able to carry out daily activities independently. Regular physical activity helps maintain blood glucose control, improve fitness, and prevent complications. Consistent activity plays a crucial role in maintaining the quality of life of older adults with diabetes mellitus.
