Abstract
Background: Hypertension or high blood pressure is a chronic health problem that requires long-term treatment, but compliance with taking medication is often a challenge for sufferers. Non-compliance can increase the risk of complications such as stroke, kidney failure and heart disease. Nurses have a key role in empowering clients and families to understand the importance of therapy and preventing complications. Objective: This study aims to determine the influence of the role of nurses on medication adherence among hypertension sufferers in the family environment. Methods: The research used a qualitative approach with descriptive methods through in-depth interviews and observations of hypertension sufferers and their families who received nurse assistance, and analyzed using triangulation of sources and methods. Results: The research results show that the nurse's contribution has a significant influence on increasing client compliance, morale and mental health. Before receiving assistance, clients tend to lack discipline due to a lack of understanding of the importance of treatment. However, after receiving education, supervision and emotional support from nurses and family members, clients become more disciplined in taking medication, feel calm, confident, and more motivated to maintain their health. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the role of nurses has a positive impact in forming compliance habits in patients suffering from hypertension, not only physically but also psychologically and socially. Therefore, strengthening the educational, communication and monitoring functions of family-based nurses is very important to improve the quality of life of patients with hypertension.
