Abstract

Rapid technological developments have led to many changes in various aspects of people's lives. Nowadays, the internet and social media have become an important part of everyday life. The high intensity of social media use raises concerns about the positive and negative impacts it may have on learning activities and students' academic achievement. This study aims to determine the effect of TikTok social media use on the academic achievement of students at the Laboratorium UM High School in Malang. This study uses a quantitative approach with an explanatory research design. The sample used in this study consisted of 109 respondents selected through total sampling. The results of this study show that there is a significant negative influence between the use of TikTok social media and the academic achievement of students at Laboratorium UM High School in Kota Malang, which can be seen through the partial T-test results with a sig. value of 0.000 < 0.05 or a t-count of -4.686 > t-table 1.982. In the coefficient of determination test results, the coefficient of determination (R Square) value of 0.170 shows that 17% of the change in academic achievement can be explained by the variable of TikTok social media use, while 83% is influenced by other variables not examined in this study.
