The low reading interest of elementary school students has become one of the challenges that requires serious attention in the field of education. Although the school facilities, such as reading corners and Chromebook devices, are adequately provided, grade III students at SD Muhammadiyah 08 Dau still show low reading interest. Therefore, this study aims to determine the influence of using Chromebook-based Web Literacy Cloud media on improving students’ reading interest. Through this interactive digital medium, reading activities are expected to become more engaging, enjoyable, and capable of fostering motivation and reading habits from an early age.
This study employed a quantitative approach with an experimental research design using a pretest-posttest control group. The sample consisted of two classes: an experimental class using Chromebook-based Web Literacy Cloud media and a control class using conventional learning methods, each with 20 students. The data were collected through questionnaires, pretests, posttests, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out using normality, homogeneity, and paired sample t-test with SPSS version 27 to determine the significant differences between the two groups.
The results of the study showed that the use of Chromebook-based Web Literacy Cloud media had a significant influence on increasing students’ reading interest. The average pretest score in the experimental class increased from 60 to 89 with a percentage gain of 48.33%, while the control class only increased by 36%. Based on these findings, teachers are encouraged to utilize technology-based media such as Chromebooks and Web Literacy Cloud as alternative tools in reading instruction, as they have proven effective in creating a more interactive and enjoyable learning environment and in fostering students’ sustained interest in reading.
